It was founded in 1576.
Church Street/Church Lane
Church History
An ancient parish church, originally serving the townships of Acton, Crowton, Cuddington, Onston and Wallerscote, and parts of the townships of Hartford and Weaverham cum Milton.
The district was affected by the following boundary changes:
- 1872 April 23 — reduced when the townships of Crowton and Onston, together wth the constituent detached part of the township of Norley, were transferred to the new district of Crowton: Christ Church.
- 1935 April 2 — reduced when the township of Cuddington and part of the township of Weaverham were transferred to Sandiway: St. John the Evangelist.
- 1936 July 17 — enlarged by the addition of three detached portions from Whitegate: St. Mary lying wholly within the parish of Weaverham.
- 1936 July 17 — reduced when three detached portions lying within the boundaries of Hartford: St. John the Baptist were transferred to the latter district.
- 1936 July 17 — reduced when a detached portion of the district lying to the south of Chester Road was transferred to Whitegate: St. Mary.
