It was founded in 1574.
Church History
An ancient parish church, originally serving the townships of Dunham on the Hill, Elton, Hapsford, Thornton-le-Moors and Wimbolds Trafford.
The district was affected by the following boundary changes:
- 1888 February 10 — reduced when the townships of Dunham on the Hill and Hapsford were transferred to Dunham on the Hill: St. Luke.
On 27 October 1971 the parish was abolished and its area transferred to Ellesmere Port: Christ Church.
