- Stapeley was a township in Wybunbury ancient parish, Nantwich hundred (SJ 6750), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- It includes the hamlets of Artle Brook (part), Broad Lane, Butt Green, Haymoor Green (part) and Howbeck Bank (part).
- The population was 249 in 1801, 462 in 1851, 686 in 1901, 513 in 1951, and 1048 in 2001.
