It was founded in 1668.
Church History
An ancient chapelry in the parish of Rostherne: St. Mary, which in 1827 became the district church for the townships of Marthall, Over Peover and Snelson.
The district was affected by the following boundary changes:
- 1840 — reduced when the township of Marthall was transfererd to Marthall: All Saints.
- 1880 April 9 — reduced when most of the township of Snelson was transfererd to Chelford: St. John the Evangelist
It also included the chapel of Over Peover: St. Michael.
