Church History

Built in 1859 as a chapel to Rock Ferry: St. Peter. In 1877 it became the district church for part of the township of Higher Bebington (previously served by Rock Ferry: St. Peter). The boundaries of "The District Chapelry of Christ Church, Higher Bebington" were described in the London Gazette on 4 May 1877: 

"All that portion of the particular district or new parish of Saint Peter Higher Bebington otherwise called or known as Rock Ferry sometime part of the parish of Bebington in the county of Chester and in the diocese of Chester which is bounded on the east on the south and on the west by that part of the said parish of Bebington wherein the present incumbent of such parish now possesses the exclusive cure of souls on the north by the new parish of Saint Paul Tranmere in the said county and diocese and on the remaining side that is to say on the north-east by an imaginary line commencing at the point where the boundary dividing the said new parish of Saint Paul Tranmere from the particular district or new parish of Saint Peter Higher Bebington otherwise called or known as Rock Ferry as aforesaid crosses the middle of the Old Chester-road leading from Tranmere to Lower Bobington and extending thence south-eastward for a distance of thirty-six and a half chains or thereabouts along the middle of the said road to the boundary at or near to the house called or known as the Dog Kennels which boundary divides the said particular district or new parish of Saint Peter Higher Bebington otherwise called or known as Rock Ferry from the parish of Bebington. aforesaid."
