It was founded in 1558.

Church History

An ancient parish church, originally serving the townships of Alvanley, Frodsham, Frodsham Lordship, Helsby, Kingsley, Manley, Newton by Frodsham, and Norley. 

The district was affected by the following boundary changes: 

  • 1851 — reduced when the townships of Kingsley and Newton by Frodsham were transferred to Kingsley: St. John the Evangelist.
  • 1861 — reduced when the township of Norley was transferred to Norley: St. John the Evangelist.
  • 1861 April 19 — reduced when the township of Alvanley was transferred to the new district of Alvanley: St. John the Evangelist.
  • 1875 December 7 — reduced when the township of Helsby was transferred to the new district of Helsby: St. Paul.
  • 1930 May 27 — reduced when the township of Manley was transferred to the district of Alvanley: St. John the Evangelist.
