An ancient chapel to Sandbach: St. Mary. In 1733 it became the district church for the townships of Church Hulme, Cotton and Cranage.
The district was affected by the following boundary changes:
- 1847 March 9 — reduced when parts of the townships of Bradwall and Sandbach were transferred to Elworth: St. Peter.
- 1848 April 25 — reduced when part of the township of Cranage was transferred to Byley cum Lees: St. John the Evangelist.
