"BUGLAWTON, a township in that part of the parish of ASTBURY which is in the hundred of NORTHWICH, county palatine of CHESTER, 1 mile (N. E. by E.) from Congleton, containing 948 inhabitants. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. Extensive mills for spinning and preparing lace thread for the Nottingham and Buckingham manufacturers, are in active operation at this place. Here is a mineral spring, the water of which contains sulphur, a small quantity of Epsom salts, and calcareous earth, and has proved serviceable in scorbutic diseases," [From Samuel Lewis A Topographical Dictionary of England (1831) ©Mel Lockie]

- Buglawton was a township in Astbury ancient parish, Northwich hundred (SJ 8663), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- The civil parish was abolished in 1936 to become parts of Congleton, Eaton (near Congleton) and North Rode.
- It included the hamlets of Dane-in-Shaw, Havannah, Key Green, and Timbersbrook.
- The population was 517 in 1801, 2052 in 1851, and 1452 in 1901.
