Founded in 1911 as the district church for part of Stockport (previously served by Stockport: St. Matthew). The boundaries of "The district of Saint Mark, Stockport" were described in the London Gazette on 5 May 1911:
"All that part of the new parish (sometime district) of Saint Matthew, Stockport, in the county of Chester and in the diocese of Chester, which is bounded upon all sides as follows, that is to say, upon the east by the parish of Saint Thomas, Stockport, upon the south-east and upon the south by the parish of Cheadle, upon the south-west, upon the north-west, and upon part of the north by the consolidated chapelry of Saint Augustine, Brinksway, all in the said county and diocese, and upon the remaining part of the north by an imaginary line commencing upon the boundary which divides the said consolidated chapelry of Saint Augustine, Brinksway, from .the said new parish of Saint Matthew, Stockport, at the junction of Edgeley Road with Northgate Street, and extending thence northeastward along the middle of Edgeley Road and Castle Street for a distance of forty chains or thereabouts to the boundary which divides the said new parish of Saint Matthew, Stockport, from the said parish of Saint Thomas, Stockport."
