- Puddington was a township in Burton ancient parish, Wirral hundred (SJ 3174), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- It includes the hamlets of Badger's Rake (part), Benty Heys, Croxton Wood, Shotwick (from 2015), Two Mills (part only until 2015), and Woodbank (from 2015).
- The population was 139 in 1801, 176 in 1851, 126 in 1901, 410 in 1951, and 325 in 2001.
