- Helsby was a township in Frodsham ancient parish, Eddisbury hundred (SJ 4975), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- It includes the hamlets of Irondish (part) and Teuthill (part).
- The population was 268 in 1801, 692 in 1851, 1572 in 1901, 2739 in 1951, and 4701 in 2001.
