- Handforth cum Bosden was a township in Cheadle and Stockport Parishes, Macclesfield hundred, which became a civil parish in 1866.
- In 1877 the two detached areas of Bosden and Handforth became separate civil parishes.
- The population was 1034 in 1801 (with Bosden) and 2671 in 1851.
