"BOSLEY, a chapelry in the parish of PRESTBURY, hundred of MACCLESFIELD, county palatine of CHESTER, 4¾ miles (E. N. E.) from Congleton, containing 546 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £800 royal bounty, and £1000 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Prestbury." - Bosley was a township in Prestbury ancient parish, Macclesfield hundred (SJ 9266), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- It includes the hamlets of Higher Works, Key Green, Kiln Hill, Lower Works, Minn End, Mountpleasant, Primrosebank and Smithy Green.
- The population was 417 in 1801, 568 in 1851, 353 in 1901, 421 in 1951, and 406 in 2001.
