- Bosden was a detached part of the township of Handforth cum Bosden in Cheadle parish and Macclesfield hundred (SJ 9387), which became a civil parish in 1877.
- The civil parish was abolished in 1900 and incorporated into Hazel Grove and Bramhall.
- The population was 1034 in 1801 (with Handforth), 2021 in 1851, and 2570 in 1901.
