"ALSAGER, a chapelry in that part of the parish of BARTHOMLEY which is in the hundred of NANTWICH, county palatine of CHESTER, 5¾ miles (S. E. by S.) from Sandbach, containing 359 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, and in the patronage of the Lord of the Manor. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. A school, for the education of children of both sexes, was founded and endowed by Mary, Judith, and Margaret Alsager, who also built and endowed the chapel." - Alsager was a township in Barthomley ancient parish, Nantwich hundred (SJ 7955), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- It includes the hamlets of Cranberry Moss, Cresswellshawe, Day Green (part), Fanny's Croft, Linley (partly in Staffs), Merelake, Sunnyside, and Talke (partly in Staffs).
- The population was 275 in 1801, 473 in 1851, 2597 in 1901, 5575 in 1951, and 12578 in 2001.
