- Agden was a township in the ancient parishes of Rostherne and Bowdon, Bucklow hundred (SJ 7186), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- It includes the hamlet of Agden Brow.
- The population was 85 in 1801, 73 in 1851, 115 in 1901, 79 in 1951, and 146 in 2001.
