The oldest church site in the parish is probably St. Mogue's Island in Templeport Lough. The island is natural, though a crannog seems to be attached to it. Ruins of the church, probably reconstructed in the 18th century, remain, and there are carved stones in the graveyard which may belong to the 16th century. The church is mentioned in A.F.M. (Annals of the Four Masters) 1496.
