A book about Humberston Fitties recounts how the Humberston sand dunes and
foreshore accommodated the tents of summer campers in the Victorian and
Edwardian times and how the bungalow camp began following World War One.

The area blossomed in the Twenties and Thirties and in World War Two was
commandeered for military purposes. Afterwards, it returned to civilian use
and flourished.

The chalets are private leasehold, and are currently occupied for 10 months
of the year. They are made from a variety of materials, some of the
original chalets were railway carriages. Although the buildings have had
mains water and sewerage for some years, mains electricity was only recently
supplied.

The "Chalet Park" is now a Conservation Area and the variety of building
materials and building form gives the area a unique character. "Cottages"
is not, however an accurate description of many of the buildings
