EXTRACT of a LETTER from the Director-General Army and Ordnance Medical
Department to Colonel Mundy, dated 29th March 1855
IN reply, I beg to state, for the information of Lord Panmure, that I am
not aware of the course that was pursued by Sir James McGrigor in regard to
the matter in question. When I have found it necessary to solicit
assistance with a view to secure such a supply of Medical Officers as might
be required, I have addressed letters to a number of the first-rate
surgeons of colleges and medical schoolsm and requested their aid. As
regards Dublin, I lately wrote to several of the most eminent Irish
surgeons, some of whom at least are Professors in the Royal College of
Surgeons in Ireland, as well as in the Dublin University.
